Family and Children's Ministries
The NCC Family and Children’s Ministries Department contains many ministries: Adventurer club, children’s Sabbath School, adult Sabbath School, Vacation Bible School (VBS), and single adult ministries. The department also coordinates three children’s divisions and the craft program at Redwood Camp Meeting for hundreds of children each summer. Throughout the year, the department is also responsible for Shield the Vulnerable volunteer training. Our goal is to provide resources and training for local church leaders throughout the Northern California Conference.

Adventurer clubs continue to grow.
There are currently more than 30 Adventurer clubs in the Northern California Conference. User-friendly manuals—new this year—have made leading a club easier than ever.

Each year the Adventurers and their families participate in a Fun Day. The event alternates between the Bay Area and Sacramento. In 2015, Fun Day was at the Sacramento Zoo, and in 2016 it was held at the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley. About 750 children and parents attended each of these popular events.

Seminars offer training throughout the conference.
In 2015, and again in 2016, the department brought afternoon training seminars to five different locations across the conference: Antioch, Red Bluff, Roseville, Santa Rosa, and Willits. The seminars focused on training for children’s ministry, family issues, and leaders of Vacation Bible School and Sabbath School (from beginners to youth). Some of the topics at the 2016 training were Discipling Children, Online Safety for Tots to Teens, Youth Sabbath School Excellence, and Positive, Fun Marriage Relationships. The department also brought a full day of training in Spanish to the Concord International church.

The conference website already has the locations and dates for next year’s training posted at www.nccsda.com/LeadingChildrentoHeaven. Additionally, resources are always available in this department for local leaders.

Mark you calendars: Pacific Union family and children’s ministry leaders are also planning a union-wide training in Las Vegas, Nov. 9-12, 2017.

Thousands of volunteers have been trained and screened.
To assure the safety of our children in every Northern California Conference church and school, all volunteers are asked to take training to help them better understand child abuse and the abuser. This is done through Shield the Vulnerable and is coordinated through this department. So far, about 4,000 volunteers have been screened through this program.
