Bridges: Bay Area for Jesus
For more information, e-mail info@bridges2oakland.org.

The Northern California Conference and the Central California Conference have joined together to bring the good news about Jesus to the cities of Oakland and San Francisco. Our joint effort is called Bridges: Bay Area for Jesus.
We believe that Jesus is the Bridge between heaven and earth, showing us how much God loves us and desires to save us. We also believe that Christ’s followers can serve as bridges to bring people to Him. Just as there are several bridges that connect our two conferences, there are many bridges to connect people in our territories. We need to bridge the gaps between churches, pastors and members by unifying behind a common goal: making disciples for Jesus throughout the Bay Area.

There is no “quick fix” when it comes to evangelism—especially to the cosmopolitan, post-modern people who live in Oakland and San Francisco. If we want our efforts to be meaningful and long lasting, we need to forge relationships, which only happens over time. Through the local area churches, through conference programs, through person-to-person friendships, we hope to bring many people into a saving relationship with Jesus.
Even in the early years of Adventism, our pioneers acknowledged the difficulties of reaching the cities, but they believed that the Lord would bless their outreach efforts. “There is a great work to be done in San Francisco and Oakland,” wrote Ellen White more than 100 years ago. “The Lord will use humble men in these great cities. He can work with those who will labor in His fear. He will give evidence of His power to sincere workers and to sincere inquirers after truth, who desire not only to know but perform His will” (MS Release, Vol. 4, p. 235).
Let us all pray for humility, sincerity and wisdom to know the Lord’s will as we make plans for this outreach to win the Bay Area for Jesus!

“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” (Matthew 9:37, 38, NKJV)

“I had been shown that San Francisco and Oakland were missionary fields and ever would be.”
