Greg Fong, NCC, is an avid cyclist. As of his September 10th ride, he has cycled 417.20 miles so far this month. Keep it going strong, Greg!
 
Julie Hubbard, Antioch Church, shares this with us: I bought a Unicef Kid Power Band that tracks my steps. I synced it to their app and I am able to increase my steps per day and give food packets to children in need. The app allows you to give high energy peanut butter nutritional packets to children who are malnourished and/or starving. The more I walk, the more food I can give to a child. It's a great motivator and it's great for me as I'm trying to eat better and exercise more; as well as, helping children who don't have access to high quality food.
 
Rika Meyer, Rio Lindo Adventist Academy, shares with us that to keep active, she swims, hikes and has even gone grape picking this month! Way to keep active!
 
Guadalupe Negrete, El Dorado Adventist School, shares this with us: On September 2 after church and lunch. American River in Coloma. We carried our inner tubes and hiked (1 mile) from where we parked our car to the upper bridge just below Trouble Maker rapids. We paddled down the river 1 mile through easy rapids and calm areas. This kept us cool and we got to see so much of God's gift to us - geese, ducks, fish, egrets, trees, etc. Once we were done, we swam a bit where we took out our inner tubes. Then hiked back up the steep trail to our car. I would recommend this to anyone.
 
Ted Calkins, Clearlake Church, swims and walks to keep active. Helping to pick up trash on the campus of Clearlake School and the neighboring acreage has been a healthy addition to keeping healthy this month too! Great motivation, Ted!

Some members of the Sacramento Samoan church recently participated in the “Sac Samoan Weight Loss Transformation and Lifestyle Change Challenge!” The 11-week program was designed and led by Eunite Mataafa, whose husband, Ulisese, serves as pastor of the church. Mataafa’s program emphasized healthy choices for the participants—who called themselves the challengers. Every Sunday the group met together to exercise. Mataafa gave them a list of healthy foods, as well as a list of foods to eliminate. She started a private Facebook group, where she provided motivation and encouragement. Challengers used it to be accountable for their choices—documenting what they were eating and how they were exercising. They were also able to post questions and share when they were struggling. Although the current challenge is complete, the challengers continue on their individual paths toward optimal health.  “This is a journey with God,” said Mataafa. “It’s not by our might and power, but by relying on the power of God to help us through our new lifestyle journey, we will succeed.”
